Part 2: The people of Atlantis Chapter 12: The Kojiki, Part Two
The heirs of Susano-O and Kushinada ruled the province of Izumo. The kami of the Milky Way were watching all this carefully and they ended up being jealous of the descendants of Susano-oh: the reasons for this remain vague jealousy, but the fact remains that it was strengthening day by day. They incited by all kinds of schemes topics lords of Izumo to rebel. The sixth descendant of the line had to resign and he gave up his throne. Then it was an era of chaos in Izumo and men again became gradually beasts. The weakest and most perceptive turned to the kami of the Milky Way for their help: they needed a leader to rule again the order in their province. Amaterasu heard their prayers and sent her little son Ninigi (his full name is Soul Nigishikuni Nigishiamatsuhiko Hikono Ninigi no no Mikoto!) To rule over all the islands because no Kami Takagi her son she had conceived with Takami Musubi (God the sky) refused to rule the kingdom of Izumo. Become the “kami of abundance”, Ninigi was preparing to descend on Earth not without having served his grandmother that this task does little interest. She decided to entrust a large portion of the jewels she had taken from the Tree of Light and its mirror. But in giving it to Ninigi, she saw that his image had remained on the mirror. With this, Ninigi can transmit the image of Amaterasu to all his descendants. Finally, she entrusted him with the sword that Susano-O had given him after removing the tail and ears Koshi sacred to make fertile rice fields. He is the god of rice. He did not get one, six kami, whose powerful Ame no Uzume, accompanied him. Ninigi was finally decided to cross the rainbow which connects the two realms: to take away any opportunity to return, Amaterasu took away the link between the two kingdoms between the male and the Gods, the famous rainbow sky or “Heavenly Bridge”. Ninigi lands on the island of Kyushu and moved to Cape Kasasa in the province of Satsuma. Shortly after, during an exploration of his new environment, he meets Konohana Sakuya Hime No (hime = princess). Daughter of a kami, that of a mountain near the place of their meeting, her beauty and grace enchant Ninigi who falls in love: he proposed marriage. They spent a night together. The next day she told him: “I’m pregnant”. Ninigi can not believe she can get pregnant in one night. She told him: “If it’s your child who is born, nothing will happen. If this is not your child, then this is the worst of evils “. At the time of birth, Konohana isolates himself in a house and condemns the entrance. Then when the child comes first, she set fire to the house: the triplets and their mother were spared by the fire: they were indeed the son of Ninigi. Konohana baptized his children according to the intensity of the fire that surrounded him: the eldest was named Hoderi no Mikoto (Flame Burning).
The second was named Hosuseri no Mikoto (Flame enduring) and the third was named Hori no Mikoto (flickering). Growing up, the three brothers became strong boys. But their passions were very different. Burning flame, the elder, loved fishing, he was also nicknamed Umi Sachi biko (“Fortune Seas”). Flickering it was engaged in hunting, they naturally called Yama Sachi biko (“Fortune Mountain”). Bored by routine, the youngest asks flame burning with passion to change with it for a while. At first wary, he agrees, but asks his brother to take good care of his single hook. Flickering flame was not a good fisherman and just before giving up, he left clinging to a rock in the sea bottom the hook of his brother. When he went fishing rod without his hook, flame burning in much wanted his older brother, refusing any other than his own hook. Flickering even 500 hooks fashioned from his superb sword, but nothing helped, his older brother wanted nothing to do: he was very sad and did not know what to do to win back the affection of his brother. While at the water’s edge looking for a solution, Shiotsuchi, the kami of the tide appeared. Burning flame told him her story. Affected Shiotsuchi manufactured for flame flickering a little ship and explained how to visit the castle Owatatsumi, Great Lord of the Oceans (and first son of Izanagi and Izanami) Burning flame was welcomed by the occupants of the castle. There he met Toyotama Hime, he married a beautiful princess. He lived three years in this palace. But one day he seemed very concerned. Toyotama asked him what caused him so much trouble. He kept thinking about the hook. So Owatatsumi sent all the fish of the oceans to find the hook. It was a fish had trouble swallowing for some time: he had swallowed the hook. Owatatsumi the dislodged and went to Flickering flame, giving it an important target, “You must make this hook backs pronouncing the incantation that makes poor and feeble-minded. If your brother cultivates his fields in the hills, you’ll have to plow yours in the valley. And tell him that in three years, it will be ruined. If at that time he sent his troops to attack you, then you drown his soldiers with the sacred stone that raises the water level Shiomitsu Tama. When he goes, his army savings using Shiohuru Tama, the gem that lowers the water level. “.
Owatatsumi invoked then the crocodiles and sharks to escort Flickering flame Since Burning Flame had lost his hook fetish, its fisheries were disastrous. After the return of his younger brother, he was ruined in just under three years. In desperation, he sent his army to plunder the castle of flame flickering. To defend themselves, Flickering flame uses the first gem: the waters rose suddenly and flame burning with his army nearly drowned. At the last moment, the younger son used the second jewel. The older brother was resigned and vowed to always be there to protect Toyotama had remained at the palace. She would soon give birth, but she wanted her child born in the land of her husband. Then she went on a beach near the house of children Ninigi. Her husband was very happy to see her, but she asked him not to attend the birth. He accepted, but impatient, he returned to the beach to see his child born. He saw Toyotama Hime in its non-human, its original form, that of a huge crocodile. Flickering flame was terrified and fled. Toyotama Hime fled, abandoning her child on the beach, and she disappeared forever. Toyotama but had not forgotten his love. She decided to send his sister, Tamayori Hime, who came to care for her nephew Ugaya Hukiaezu no Mikoto (The prince born in a hut covered with feathers). The latter became growing up strong and beautiful. Ugaya Hukiaezu Tamayori and fell in love and got married. They had four children: Itsube no Mikoto was the eldest, was the second Inahi no Mikoto, the third name was Mike Numa no Mikoto and Kamu Yamato Iware Biko no Mikoto was the last.
Kyushu was no longer at peace. Waves of invaders regularly disturbed the tranquility of this island. The islanders called them Kumaso (kuma = bear). These men were proud warriors, always ready to fight and they worshiped the God Bear. Other waves of invaders followed soon after: the Hayato. These newcomers were different but powerful warriors who want to live in harmony with the island. Iware, the last scion of Flickering flame and thoroughly understood Tamayori Hime with his three brothers. As fiery flame died, they refused to succeed him by mutual agreement, they decided to conquer all together on Kyushu. For nearly two decades, the people of Kyushu was satisfied with their four masters. One day Iware had an idea: “Consideration should be given to conquer the neighboring islands. We could call for help from Hayato to get there. “. His brothers were convinced it was a good idea. And as they have always done, they decided to take command of their whole army. Unfortunately, during the preparation of the expedition, two brothers die. Itsube and Iware are attérés by the untimely death of their brothers, but they do not desist.
They set up their armed forces in the province of Buzen, while north of the island. They would send them on the island of Usa. The head of this island before the determination of the two brothers surrendered even before the battle was engaged. Then the army stood for some time to Okada near the Strait of Shimonoseki. In time, the army crossed the strait to take Takeri (near Hiroshima). The invaders had to battle more than seven years to take the region. They then skirted the coast of the island (Hondo) and reached Okoyama. The battles in the region occupied by the armies and Iware Itsube for eight long and exhausting years. The army became more experienced and reinforcements arrived regularly from Kyushu. Once completely conquered the region, the army took the road to the sea Qu’Iware then headed his army between the jaws of threatening sharp reefs, Iware saw a huge turtle on which was perched a singular character. The army passed over the country Iware this kami. Isora (kami coasts) spontaneously offered his help to Iware and guided him. They managed smoothly in Amagasaki. After a short pause, they resumed their journey to the Yamato (Nara). The Yamato was led by a powerful warlord, stubborn and despotic, head of an army well prepared. Nagasune Hiko sent his troops to halt the progression of Iware. The army of the latter had to retreat in the rain of arrows and spears fell upon his army. Itsube was severely affected realizing the error of their progress: the army was moving in the same direction as the progression of the sun (Amaterasu) into the sky. They had to walk on their opponent from the east. They then skirted troops Nagasune Hiko. Itsube then died of his wounds and was buried near Wakayama. Iware was therefore the last son of Flame burning alive. He landed his troops east of the Kii peninsula and marched westward to attack the army of Nagasune Hiko. But before the deal again, he had to cross mountains and plains and confront various local tribes. The first tribe opposed to his progress. This time the victory was supported Iware. The kami of this tribe is then changed into gigantic bear that blew on the victorious army: the soldiers halitosis plunged into a deep sleep. Amaterasu was watching over her offspring: she sent the magic sword that Iware awoke. The kami Iware surrendered and was able to continue his journey.
He had now crossed the mountains of Yoshino. The road was very dangerous and risky, it risked losing many soldiers. The raven sky, Yatagarasu came to their aid: this is another gift of Amaterasu that best protects its “children”. The mountain was not a problem. Going down, the welcoming committee was impressive, the local tribes were allied to stop it. Iware was hesitating a moment, but he prayed and the oracle seemed favorable. He crushes his opponents again. Finally, sometimes right on the troops Nagasune Hiko. The battle raged. The two armies were composed of men trained and determined. Suddenly the sky became very dark, thick and dark clouds were gathering and a terrible storm broke. A golden bird emerges from the cloud mass and alighted on the bow of Iware. The enemies were blinded by this occurrence. But that’s not enough to flinch troops Nagasune. Being observed at length, both sides faced each other without moving until a moment to attack. Nagasune advantage of this moment of latency to send a message to his opponent, explaining that he was not entitled to invade his land with his divine descent only justification: indeed, Nagasune is itself supported by the descendants of Amaterasu. His sister married a descendant of Amaterasu and had a son called Umashimate. Nagasune he had thus justified, thanks to his nephew, also a divine support. The tension became greater between opponents. Umashimate intervened because he thought this battle would ruin the country: he asked to waive Nagasune. It was refused. Then he had to slay his uncle to stop the rain of blood. After this episode, Umashimate proclaimed himself a vassal of the Emperor Iware. Iware continued his conquests against the tribes who were in the western part of Yamato. Iware managed to rule over the entire Yamato: he settled there and built on the set of Kashiwabara his palace which became the capital of his kingdom. He was proclaimed Emperor, who is over 70 years, in the year 660 BC, February 11 (which corresponds to the first day of the first lunar month). (Nb: this date is celebrated every year during a national holiday called Kigen Setsu-).
By accepting this capacity, he put a condition his name would be “Tenno, lord of the Mikado” (tenno = heavenly king). Having devoted his life and his ambition to his illustrious ancestor, the sun goddess Amaterasu, he called the Empire “Dai Nihon” (the Great country of the Rising Sun). Soon after he met a pretty young princess whom he married: Imezu Isuzu became the first Empress. It was necessary to organize this Empire. He rewarded his faithful companions in arms and those who were allied with him. He placed in his palace the three objects that symbolize his divine power (the mirror, sword and jewels). Umashimate Okume and obtained the palace guard. He told Ame no Taneko (Ame = rain) and Tomi Ame no cases involving religion. Iware created the positions of provincial governor and district chief, and the trades. He made his soldiers of humble peasants who finally began to take advantage of this fertile land, reaching across the country and creating many villages. The craft can finally develop. Fiction meets history in recent incidents. Ame no Taneko is the ancestor of the great family of Fujiwara, Ame no Imube that of Tomi, that of Umashimate Mononobe Okume and that of Kume.
Iware is now very old. He just celebrated his one hundred twenty-six years and we are in 585 BC-AD he had two son and decided to entrust the latter’s estate. He knew that his end was near. This is the end of winter, spring is beginning to affect the nature of its colorful brush. Iware walking on the road, not far from the palace when he saw three little girls. He asked the reason for their joy, and is also intrigued by the amount of flowers that bear. They answered him, they go to the party girls. There is a long time without voice then says that this festival is that of the future: women and girls become mothers one day. One of the girls give him all her flowers and he exclaims: “Spring is coming …”. Shortly after that meeting, he put on his armor of parade he had worn during the victory against Nagasune. He then waved his great bow and he starts facing east, where every day Amaterasu sends its rays bathe his country a heavenly light. He then proclaimed not want to be one with nature to be always touched by the rays of his grandmother. Having uttered his last words, he died. He was then appointed Jimu Tenno (The valiant King of Heaven). It became traditional to give the deceased a posthumous name Emperor, who will remain for posterity, which will be recorded in history books.
